SCT Head Reiterates Commitment to Modernization

The Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT) reiterates its commitment to the various modernization and improvement projects of the Integral Port Administration (API) of Ensenada, in order to consolidate its position as a strategic port, due to its privileged geographic location.

In addition, it has a high potential for tourism and connectivity with trade with the United States, within the framework of the Mexico-United States-Canada Trade Agreement (TMEC), said the head of the agency, Jorge Arganis Díaz-Leal, while visiting the ports of El Sauzal and Ensenada.

Accompanied by the General Director of Port Development and Administration, Rocío Bárcena Molina, and the General Director of the API of Ensenada, Captain Manuel Fernando Gutiérrez Gallardo, the head of the SCT congratulated the most important mixed port of Mexico, "for the work that has been done and reinforced since this new administration, highlighting that the dynamism of the port has kept it in positive numbers in containerized cargo traffic".

He added: "This demonstrates the strength of the infrastructure and the business opportunities it attracts for private investment," he said.

He informed that the contracting of a dredge that will arrive from Puerto Madero is already in the authorization process and highlighted the Mexican Government's intention to support the ports to face the adversity that has affected not only the region's economy, but that of the entire country.

Arganis Díaz-Leal stated that ports are the most important logistical node to meet the needs of the population, so work is being done to ensure that all port infrastructure projects generate jobs and trigger the creation of logistics and industrial chains, require investments to ensure efficiency and productivity, so synergies are created between the federal government and the private sector, including international ones.

The general director of the API thanked the federal officials for the visit and the opportunity to show them the infrastructure and operation of the port, which handles commercial cargo, general cargo, fishing products, mineral, agricultural and fluid bulk cargo, shipyards, as well as cabotage services to the ports of Mazatlan, Manzanillo and Lazaro Cardenas.

The ports of Ensenada and El Sauzal also have public yards, a fiscal precinct, as well as a navigation channel and the draft according to current needs. They also develop nautical tourism activities, sport fishing and it is the main cruise ship receiver of the Mexican coast.
