ASIPONA Ensenada : The Government of Mexico Has Carried Out Humanitarian Bridges

The Government of Mexico has built Humanitarian Bridges

The Government of Mexico, in coordination with state and municipal authorities, has established 13 Humanitarian Bridges to disembark 2,273 passengers and crew members, including 262 Mexicans, to transport them to their places of residence.

From March to May, 1,836 people from different countries disembarked in Puerto Vallarta; 141 Mexicans disembarked in Cozumel; 49 English people disembarked in Puerto Progreso. In addition, in San Diego, California, 98 Mexicans and 149 foreigners were assisted; a special operation was carried out there with the support of the United States authorities.

The program has been a success due to the seriousness, responsibility and solidarity with which it has been carried out and the will of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, that the disembarkation of cruise ships is carried out strictly for humanitarian reasons, without putting the population of the ports and the authorities carrying out the operation at risk.

The Humanitarian Bridges consist of providing support to disembark cruise ship passengers and crew members who were not attended to in other countries, transferring them to the nearby airport so that they can board flights to their places of residence.

In this way, the Ministries of Health, National Defense, Foreign Affairs, Interior, Navy, Agriculture, Finance and Communications and Transportation, as well as the shipping lines, the maritime community and the governments of the countries of residence of the passengers and crew participate in a coordinated manner.

The people and their belongings undergo a preventive procedure of individual disinfection, carried out by the International Health team, to be later transferred by bus to the foot of the plane.

The vessels served are: Rotterdam, MS Europa, Osterdam, Westerdam, Marella Explorer II, Celebrity Eclipse, Disney Fantasy, Carnival Glory and Koningsdam. In addition, other commercial vessels and cruise ships were received, although they did not disembark passengers and crew, they required various port services, such as: provisioning, pilotage, towing, mooring, water, garbage collection and supplies for the crew, among others.

Likewise, with the support of the Maritime Traffic Control Centers, crew changes and rotations have been made on 18 vessels: 11 off Ensenada and seven in Puerto Vallarta.

The authorities involved in expediting the procedures and logistics of disembarkation guarantee the application of the sanitary protocols issued by the Ministry of Health, the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

With these operations, the Government of Mexico reiterates its commitment of solidarity with the rest of the nations of the world.
