Environmental Awareness

ASIPONA Ensenada, aware of the importance of maintaining the health of the surrounding coastal area, as well as the abundance of its resources, has implemented programs, actions and procedures that have made it possible to prevent possible impacts to the environment generated by the operations and services provided at the Port of Ensenada.

This document has been prepared so that users of the Port of Ensenada have a guide that allows them to implement devices and actions that protect the environment during their activities.

The purpose of these actions is to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the benefits of a healthy environment and the richness of its natural resources.

Boats

Waste generated: solid waste, waste oil, sanitary water, soapy water and sanding dust.

  • Place garbage inside the containers located inside the vessel or on the docks.
  • Use pipes and/or drums in good structural condition for the supply of hydrocarbons to vessels.
  • Use floating oil spill containment booms.
  • Use hydrocarbon absorbent material, fire extinguishers and preventive signaling during the supply of hydrocarbons.
  • Use cylinders or tanks in good structural condition for the storage of cutting and welding gases and place them in fixed structures.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment according to the type of service provided.
  • Place tarpaulins or barricades to prevent the dispersion of sanding and/or paint dust towards the sea.

Service Providers

Waste generated: solid waste, hydrocarbons, paints, gases and sanding dust.

  • Place garbage inside the containers located inside the vessel or on the docks.
  • Use pipes and/or drums in good structural condition for the supply of hydrocarbons to vessels.
  • Use floating oil spill containment booms.
  • Use hydrocarbon absorbent material, fire extinguishers and preventive signaling during the supply of hydrocarbons.
  • Use cylinders or tanks in good structural condition for the storage of cutting and welding gases and place them in fixed structures.

Works and maintenance

Waste generated: solid waste, waste oils, sanitary water, paints, gases and dust.

  • Place garbage containers during the execution of works and/or maintenance.
  • Store waste oils in structurally sound containers and dispose of them through a company authorized by SEMARNAT.
  • Use portable toilets during the execution of the works and provide final disposal of the sanitary waters, through a company authorized by CESPE.
  • Use fire extinguishers and preventive signaling during the execution of the work.
  • Use cylinders or tanks in good structural condition for the storage of cutting and welding gases and place them in fixed structures.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment according to the type of service provided.
  • Place tarpaulins or barricades to prevent the dispersion of sanding and/or paint dust towards the ground or the sea.

ASIPONA Offices

Waste generated: solid waste, sanitary water, waste oils and paints.

  • Place special containers and in specific areas within offices to temporarily store: paper/cardboard; organic and inorganic waste.
  • Take paper and cardboard to collection centers for recycling.
  • To treat sanitary water in a treatment plant.
  • Reuse treated water for irrigation of flower boxes and gardens.
  • Dispose of waste oils, in a mechanic's workshop, each time utility vehicles are serviced.
  • Place tarpaulins or barriers to prevent the dispersion of paint onto the ground or into the sea.
