Port City

We are all in the same boat

The port and the city are one and the same when it comes to linking the most important vocations of Ensenada, such as tourism, fishing, agriculture and industry. In that sense, Todos vamos en el mismo barco, is a campaign created by ASIPONA Ensenada that seeks to raise all sectors to perform either as tourist servers, public servants, employees, professionals or housewives in a positive way, with an attitude of service, protecting our environment and contributing to the social development of our Port.

It is estimated that the port generates close to 4,500 direct jobs and part of its contribution is reflected in joint works with the municipal and state governments. As part of this linkage, ASIPONA Ensenada, joining efforts with the port community, develops sports, cultural, environmental and social events.

In this search to link the port's activities with the rest of the Ensenada community, since the creation of ASIPONA, programs, works and actions of direct benefit to the community and its surroundings have been developed.

A port near you

1998 window to the sea

With an investment of $ 19.3 million pesos made from August 1996 to January 1998, the residents of Ensenada have a 1 km. outdoor pedestrian walkway with 18,000m2 of green areas. More than 50 public events are held at this site each year, which is visited by more than 120,000 people a year.

2000 Port area bypass

The construction of the bypass to the port precinct gave a new face to the entrance to the Port of Ensenada. The roadway has a length of 1.3 kilometers with 4 lanes, and 27 million pesos were invested. The benefit was direct to the community as it resulted in vehicle relief and traffic order.

2001 Andador del Pacífico

The reinforcement of the rockfill near the wave deflector was completed and a walkway was built that ends at Gate 1 of the port precinct, with a pedestrian area of 4,000 m2, which benefits hundreds of residents of Ensenada who use this road to walk or play sports.

2001 - 2008 Maintenance works at ventana al Mar

Since 2001-2008, more than 25 million pesos have been invested in the maintenance of the "andador turístico ventana al mar", mainly in green areas, garbage containers, fences, electrical repairs and signage, benefiting thousands of people who come to enjoy the walkway and its sunsets.

2008 Municipal Beach

As part of the Port-City linkage agreement with the Ensenada City Council, in 2008 the Ensenada National Port System Administration authorized the use of 7.2 hectares of land reclaimed from the sea and federal zone, which are part of the port area, for the creation of the Municipal Beach, which is already enjoyed by locals and tourists for recreational activities. Additionally, it has made contributions in order to contribute to the remodeling of the civic plaza, as it is a site frequented by the community of Ensenada and tourists visiting the Port, as well as the paving of the main parking lot on the municipal beach.

2010-2011 Green area and vehicular buffer area

In order to cushion the traffic of heavy loads along the Coastal Blvd., ASIPONA invested 1.2 million pesos in the construction of a buffer zone in the El Gallo stream, with the creation of green areas, access ramps, walkways and a fountain that is fed with wastewater from ASIPONA's water treatment plant.

Guided Tours Program

Since 2001 to date we have maintained a program of guided tours of the Port, which has benefited more than 15 thousand people, mainly high school and college students. Today we are visited by young people from Ensenada, Tijuana, Mexicali, San Felipe, San Luis Rio Colorado, Hermosillo Sonora among others. In this way the Port contributes with the academic formation of the students at the same time that it spreads the port activities. This is how ASIPONA Ensenada has become involved with the community of Ensenada with a social sense, with projects that contribute to a harmonic growth between the port and the city.
